To A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW Ceus Is Not An Optional

Various categories of practicing social workers are required to continuously engage in continuing education as a measure to keep them updated on the current issues facing the society. In order to enforce this, they are required to periodically renew their practicing license. Each of the state however have their rules in regards to continuing education units (CEUs). As for Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), states government specifies the minimal number of hours that must be spent on this education. Given that LCSW CEUs are currently offered at very affordable prices and in very flexible schedule, it has become very popular in all states.

A licensed clinical social worker is an area of profession requiring individuals to have at least Masters Degree qualification in a particular social health field. This degree should be backed up with thousands of hours in clinical training and numerous exams. They are supposed to help the society from all focal points be at individual basis, couples, family, the community and even organization to attain the general well being.

It is always better to enroll for the units specified by the state board before going for those of interest. This will ensure that the worker takes the required courses first before including the additional ones that are oriented for professional development. Some of the courses that stand out among many states as the required ones include Spouse or Partner Abuse, Aging and Long Term Care, HIV/AIDS and Law and Ethics although they vary from state to state.

As for clinical social workers specializing in hospitals and other psychiatric care centers, the LCSW ceus that are relevant are oriented in mental health care, aging, health resources, bereavement, the use of drug and drug abuse just to mention a few. For those working in prisons and other correctional facilities, they should consider taking courses in rehabilitation, society re-integration, sexual and other criminal offenses, substance abuse and many others.

In the schools, the licensed clinical social workers have to help students in areas such as truancy, social adjustment, attention deficit and neglect, child abuse, withdrawal and many other areas like teen pregnancy, sexual issues, eating disorder and self-harming. The continuing educational courses taken reflect these areas. The same goes for all other LCSW as every other category or social aspect needs specific skills.

There are various options in regards to LCSW ceus certificates with the majority being very affordable and courses can be completed online. Before embarking on what units to settle for, the state requirements must be considered in addition to the requirement of areas of specialization as both matters in license renewal.
