Jamison Monroe spoke with Allen Cardoza and Dr. Melody Foxx on the "Answers for the Family" talk show, which can easily be heard on LA Talk radio. The topic had to do with what parents can do when their teens indulge in drug abuse. The guest explained that substance abuse extended beyond simply taking recreational drugs and drinking alcohol, it also included ingesting psychedelic medications suggested by doctors.

About Jamison Monroe

Jamison founded Newport Academy as a place that offers compassionate support and effective treatment for teens battling substance abuse issues.

Despite a great private school education, as well as the love and support of family members, Jamison dealt with the pressure to receive excellent grades and do well in sports by getting addicted to Adderall, a doctor-prescribed drug that incorporates amphetamine and dextroamphetamine to stimulate the central nervous system. Today Jamison believes this medication is too readily available and overprescribed for any kind of signs that may show even a hint of attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).

His own road to recovery began after he was admitted to a therapy center that assisted him by supplying tailored, comprehensive and holistic treatment. The treatment plan, which allowed him to securely address his specific concerns with family therapy, would later come to be a model for developing Newport Academy.

Teen Addiction

Jamison explained how the misuse of prescription medications was the leading cause of teen fatalities. Young adults either overdosed on drugs that offered mood improving properties or they added MAO inhibitors to aid them to calm down from the results of too much nervous system stimulation. The result of this hazardous medication mix between stimulants and depressants might cause cardiovascular disease, hypertension, organ breakdown, stress and anxiety, agitation, or even result in a fatality.

Jamison strongly believes in educating families so that they can more effectively help their children with addiction issues - including understanding that just because a doctor prescribed a drug, it was not always a safe choice. He also discussed what parents can do to help their teens when they were making dangerous choices. He provided listeners with trustworthy information about the many issues associated with teen addiction.

In addition, Jamison provided a short description of the gender-specific, comprehensive therapy programs for teenagers given by Newport Academy. He described the program as a combination of the key variables necessary for successfully helping teenage boys and also girls who were dealing with mental stress, behavioral health and narcotics abuse issues.
